  • 1 pound hot dogs Choose quality hot dogs such as all-beef or turkey versions without fillers for the best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Dark brown sugar can be used for a richer taste.
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce Use your favorite brand or make your own.
  • 1/4 cup honey Local honey can enhance flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder Adjust to your preference for heat.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika For a touch of smokiness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper Optional for extra spice.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • Slice the hot dogs into bite-sized pieces, about 1-inch thick.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, barbecue sauce, honey, and your chosen spices (chili powder, paprika, and cayenne). Stir until well blended to form a glaze.
  • Add the sliced hot dogs to the bowl with the glaze and toss until each piece is evenly coated.
  • Spread the glazed hot dog pieces onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Bake for 45 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even cooking and caramelization.
  • Once they are done, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Watch closely during the last few minutes of baking to avoid over-caramelizing. Make sure not to overcrowd the baking sheet.
