Ingredients
  

  • 3-4 lb beef brisket (flat cut)
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions
 

  • 1.Season: Rub brisket with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
    2.Sear (optional): Brown brisket in skillet 2-3 minutes per side.
    3.Layer: Place onions in slow cooker, top with brisket.
    4.Sauce: Whisk broth, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire, and mustard; pour over brisket.
    5.Cook: Cover and cook on LOW 8 hours (or HIGH 5-6 hours).
    6.Rest: Remove brisket, let rest 15 minutes before slicing against the grain.
    7.Serve: Skim fat from juices and serve as au jus.

Notes

  • For best results, trim fat to ¼-inch thickness.
  • Brisket tastes even better when made 1 day ahead.
  • Freezes well for up to 3 months.
