Ingredients

For the Steaks:

  • 1.5 lbs (450–680g) ground beef (80–93% lean)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (Panko or Italian-style)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup or Dijon mustard
  • ½ onion, grated or minced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder or fresh garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Gravy:

  • 8 oz (225g) sliced mushrooms (white or cremini)
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth (low-sodium preferred)
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 2 tbsp flour (for roux) or cornstarch slurry
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: ½ cup red wine for deglazing

Instructions

  • Mix Patties: Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, ketchup, onion, and seasonings. Form into oval patties .
Sear Patties: Brown patties in a skillet over medium-high heat (3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
Make Gravy: In the same skillet, sauté onions and mushrooms until soft. Add butter and flour to make a roux, then whisk in broth and Worcestershire. Simmer until thickened.
Simmer: Return patties to the gravy, cover, and cook for 10–15 minutes until fully done.
Serve: Spoon gravy over patties. Pair with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles .

Notes

  • Freezer-Friendly: Patties can be frozen raw or cooked.
