Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (sourdough or Italian recommended)
  • 2 tbsp softened butter or garlic butter
  • ½ cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 8 slices of pepperoni or preferred toppings (e.g., mushrooms, olives, spinach) Optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the bread: Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
Assemble the sandwich: Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in a heated skillet. Spread marinara sauce on the unbuttered side. Add mozzarella cheese and any optional toppings. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.
Cook: Cook over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip gently and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.
Serve: Slice in half and serve hot with additional marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.

Notes

  • For added flavor, sprinkle Italian seasoning or red chili flakes in the marinara sauce.
  • Use gluten-free bread for a gluten-free version.
  • To achieve extra crispiness, press the sandwich gently with a spatula while cooking.
