Ingredients

Fries

  • 4 cups Frozen or Fresh Hand-Cut Fries Russet potatoes work best for that perfect fry texture.

Toppings

  • 8 slices American Cheese Slices Creamy American cheese like Craft Singles or a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack.
  • 1 cup Grilled Onions Thinly sliced; yellow, white, or sweet onions work great.
  • 1/2 cup Secret Sauce Homemade Thousand Island or store-bought. Can substitute with Mayo-Ketchup-Ranch dressing.
  • to taste Salt Use quality salt like sea salt or kosher salt.

Instructions

Preparation

  • If using frozen fries, cook them according to package instructions (typically 425°F for 20-25 minutes). If using fresh hand-cut fries, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before frying to help remove excess starch.
  • Dry the fries completely and fry in oil heated to 350°F until golden and crispy (about 4-5 minutes).
  • While the fries cook, slice your onions thinly. Heat a tablespoon of oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and caramelized.

Assembly

  • Once the fries are crispy and golden, pile them on a serving plate. Layer several slices of American cheese on top and pop them back in the oven for 2-3 minutes, just until the cheese begins to melt.
  • Drizzle your secret sauce generously over the cheesy fries.
  • Top with your beautiful grilled onions, add salt to taste, and serve while everything is hot and melty!

Notes

Consider adding toppings like jalapeños, bacon bits, or avocado slices for customization. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
