  • 1 cup onion, chopped the sweeter, the better
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced fresh, not pre-minced
  • 1 cup celery, chopped finely diced for better texture
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped adds sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning adjust to your spice preference
  • 4 cups seafood stock homemade or high-quality store-bought

For the creamy blend

  • 1 cup heavy cream don’t skimp here; it’s worth it!
  • 1 cup crab meat fresh is best; canned works in a pinch
  • 1 cup shrimp, peeled and deveined valley-fresh or wild-caught
  • Salt and pepper to taste with extra for the seafood
  • Fresh parsley for garnish adds a pop of color

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large pot, heat your olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, stirring occasionally until they’re soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the celery and carrots, allowing them to cook for another 5 minutes until softened.
  • Sprinkle in the Cajun seasoning, letting it sizzle for about a minute to release its aroma.
  • Add the seafood stock to the pot, bringing it to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  • Gently stir in the heavy cream, followed by the crab meat and shrimp.
  • Allow everything to cook until the shrimp turns pink and opaque, around 5 more minutes.
  • Taste your bisque and season with salt and pepper to your liking.
  • Ladle into bowls and garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Ensure your ingredients are fresh; this enhances the overall flavor tremendously. If using frozen seafood, ensure it’s completely thawed and patted dry to avoid excess moisture. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
