Ingredients

For the Coffee Mixture

  • cups strong brewed espresso (cooled)
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)

For the Cream Layer

  • 4 large egg yolks
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (cold)

For Assembly

  • 30 ladyfingers (savoiardi)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Coffee Mixture
Brew a strong espresso and let it cool to room temperature. Mix in coffee liqueur for added depth of flavor. Set aside.
  • Step 2: Make the Cream
In a heatproof bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and whisk continuously for 8-10 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Fold in mascarpone cheese until smooth and creamy.
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks. Gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture.
  • Step 3: Assemble the Tiramisu
Dip ladyfingers briefly into the coffee mixture and arrange them in a single layer in a rectangular dish.
Spread half of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers.
Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining cream.
  • Step 4: Chill and Serve
Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld.
Dust with cocoa powder before serving

Notes

  • Avoid soaking the ladyfingers for too long, as they can become overly soggy.
  • Use high-quality mascarpone for the best flavor and texture.
