Ingredients

For the Carne Asada

  • 1 lb skirt steak or flank steak
  • ¼ cup cup olive oil
  • 3 tbsp lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Fries

  • 1 lb frozen French fries (or homemade fries, if preferred)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese

Toppings

  • ½ cup cup guacamole
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup cup salsa
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • Optional: Jalapeño slices, pico de gallo, or pickled onions

Instructions

  • Marinate the Carne Asada:
In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it's well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the fridge for even more flavor).
  • Cook the Carne Asada:
Preheat a grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat.Remove the steak from the marinade and grill for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Let it rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  • Prepare the Fries:
While the steak is grilling, cook the French fries according to package instructions or make homemade fries.Once the fries are golden and crispy, place them in a large baking dish and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Put them in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until the cheese melts, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Assemble the Carne Asada Fries:
Top the cheesy fries with slices of carne asada.Add guacamole, sour cream, salsa, and any additional toppings of your choice (such as jalapeño slices or pico de gallo).Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For an extra crispy bite, double fry the French fries or use an air fryer.
  • To make this dish spicier, add a drizzle of hot sauce or serve with fresh jalapeños.
