Ingredients

  • 4 slices sourdough or whole-grain bread
  • 1 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar or Gouda cheese
  • ½ medium apple (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Assemble: Butter one side of each bread slice. On unbuttered sides, layer cheese, apple slices, a drizzle of honey, cinnamon, and salt. Top with remaining bread (buttered side out).
Cook: Heat a skillet over medium-low. Cook sandwiches 3–4 minutes per side until golden and cheese melts.
    Serve: Slice and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Add turkey or ham for extra protein.
  • Use a panini press for grill marks.
  • For crispier texture, use mayo instead of butter.
