Description

Delightful and whimsical meringue cookies shaped like trees, perfect for holiday celebrations and customizable for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large egg whites (room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring (gel recommended)
  • Sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg whites on medium speed until soft peaks form, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Gradually add the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, increasing the speed to high until stiff peaks form, around 5 minutes.
  4. Add cream of tartar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  5. Slowly add green food coloring until the desired shade is achieved, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Pipe the meringue into tree shapes on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Decorate with sprinkles if desired.
  8. Bake for 1 to 1.5 hours until dry to the touch and they lift easily off the parchment.
  9. Allow to cool completely in the oven with the door cracked open.

Notes

Keep everything squeaky clean for the egg whites to whip to their full potential. Meringues are best baked on dry days to ensure they maintain their crisp texture.
