- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a different bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, stirring until combined.
- Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Flatten each ball slightly and decorate with sprinkles if desired.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the bottoms turn golden.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack and prepare the icing.
- Mix powdered sugar with a small amount of water until smooth, then ice the cookies and add more sprinkles if desired.
Notes
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. They can be frozen for longer storage.
