Description

Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, these festive Italian cookies are perfect for holiday celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a different bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, stirring until combined.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place on a lined baking sheet.
  6. Flatten each ball slightly and decorate with sprinkles if desired.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the bottoms turn golden.
  8. Allow to cool on a wire rack and prepare the icing.
  9. Mix powdered sugar with a small amount of water until smooth, then ice the cookies and add more sprinkles if desired.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. They can be frozen for longer storage.
