Description

A simple and flavorful recipe for roasting turkey, perfect for Thanksgiving or any family gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage)
  • Garlic cloves (optional)
  • Onion (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey from its packaging and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. Rub the softened butter all over the turkey, ensuring it gets under the skin.
  4. Season generously with salt and pepper, and sprinkle fresh herbs inside the cavity.
  5. Place garlic cloves and onion inside the turkey if desired.
  6. Place the turkey breast-side up on a rack in a roasting pan.
  7. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the roasting pan.
  8. Roast the turkey for 13-15 minutes per pound, totaling about 2.5 to 3 hours.
  9. Baste the turkey occasionally with the pan juices.
  10. Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.

Notes

For extra crispy skin, leave the turkey uncovered in the fridge overnight before roasting. Always save the drippings for gravy.
