Description
A comforting side dish featuring caramelized mushrooms and onions, perfect for enhancing any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz mushrooms (white, cremini, or shiitake)
- 1 medium onion (yellow or sweet)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Fresh herbs (like thyme or parsley) for garnish
Instructions
- Prep your ingredients: Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth and slice them evenly. Peel and slice the onion to match the size of your mushroom pieces for even cooking.
- Heat the pan: In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat until the butter starts to foam.
- Add the onions: Toss the sliced onions in the pan, stirring frequently for about 5-7 minutes until they become translucent and slightly golden.
- Sauté the mushrooms: Add the mushrooms to the pan, stirring well to coat. Spread them evenly for consistent cooking.
- Season: Sprinkle with salt and pepper (and any fresh herbs). Cook for an additional 8-10 minutes until the mushrooms are golden brown, stirring occasionally.
- Finish and serve: Remove from heat once tender and caramelized, ready to serve.
Notes
Avoid overcrowding the pan for maximum caramelization. These can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
