Description
Deliciously sweet and salty bars combining chocolate and pecans with a flaky crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or 3/4 cup finely ground almond flour, or 1 cup gluten-free 1:1 baking blend)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cold butter, diced
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla paste or vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup whole pecans, for garnish
- Flaky sea salt, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 175°C and prepare a 20×20 cm baking pan by greasing it lightly or lining it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and cold diced butter. Blend until resemble coarse crumbs—about 2-3 minutes.
- Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of your baking pan and bake for 12-14 minutes or until lightly golden.
- In another large bowl, whisk together brown sugar, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Slowly fold in melted butter, chopped pecans, and dark chocolate chips.
- Pour the filling mixture evenly over the baked crust. Scatter whole pecans on top.
- Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes; the edges should be set, but the middle can remain slightly jiggly.
- Allow to cool in the pan before transferring to a wire rack. Once wholly cooled, slice into bars and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
