Description

Deliciously sweet and salty bars combining chocolate and pecans with a flaky crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or 3/4 cup finely ground almond flour, or 1 cup gluten-free 1:1 baking blend)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold butter, diced
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla paste or vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup whole pecans, for garnish
  • Flaky sea salt, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C and prepare a 20×20 cm baking pan by greasing it lightly or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and cold diced butter. Blend until resemble coarse crumbs—about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of your baking pan and bake for 12-14 minutes or until lightly golden.
  4. In another large bowl, whisk together brown sugar, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Slowly fold in melted butter, chopped pecans, and dark chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the filling mixture evenly over the baked crust. Scatter whole pecans on top.
  6. Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes; the edges should be set, but the middle can remain slightly jiggly.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan before transferring to a wire rack. Once wholly cooled, slice into bars and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.

Notes
