A comforting classic dish featuring juicy ground beef patties smothered in a rich, savory mushroom gravy. Perfect for a hearty dinner!
Ingredients
Scale
- For the Patties:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean/fat)
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp ketchup or mustard (optional)
- For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp thyme (dried or fresh)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Make the Patties: In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently (do not overwork). Shape into 4 oval patties.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little oil and cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt butter. Sauté onions and mushrooms until softened (5 mins). Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Thicken the Gravy: Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir for 1 minute. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Simmer until thickened (3-5 mins).
- Finish Cooking: Return patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Cover and simmer on low for 10-12 minutes until cooked through.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Best served with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
Notes
- For a leaner option, use ground turkey or chicken.
- Gravy thickens as it cools—add a splash of broth if needed.
- Let patties rest 5 minutes before serving for juicier results.
