Ingredients
Scale
For the Patties:
1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean/fat)
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp ketchup or mustard (optional)
For the Mushroom Gravy:
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
1 small onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp thyme (dried or fresh)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Make the Patties: In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently (do not overwork). Shape into 4 oval patties.
Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little oil and cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt butter. Sauté onions and mushrooms until softened (5 mins). Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Thicken the Gravy: Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir for 1 minute. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Simmer until thickened (3-5 mins).
Finish Cooking: Return patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Cover and simmer on low for 10-12 minutes until cooked through.
Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Best served with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
Notes
For a leaner option, use ground turkey or chicken.
Gravy thickens as it cools—add a splash of broth if needed.
Let patties rest 5 minutes before serving for juicier results.
