Description
A simple yet elegant dessert of pears poached in white wine, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium-sized ripe pears (Bosc or Anjou)
- 1 cup white wine (Sauvignon Blanc)
- 1/2 cup sugar (or honey for a more natural sweetness)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2–3 whole cloves (optional)
- Zest of 1 lemon
- Water (as needed)
Instructions
- Peel and prepare the pears, leaving the stems intact and creating a flat base.
- Create the poaching liquid by combining white wine, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, and lemon zest in a medium saucepan and simmer for 3-5 minutes.
- Gently place pears into the pot of poaching liquid, ensuring they are submerged.
- Allow the pears to simmer for about 20 minutes, turning halfway through.
- Once cooked, remove pears with a slotted spoon and let cool, reducing the poaching liquid until syrupy.
- Serve with a drizzle of syrup and garnish with fresh mint.
Notes
For a richer flavor, serve with vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt.
