Description

A cozy and elegant dessert featuring tender pears baked in a creamy custard.


Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 small-medium ripe pears
  • 1/2 tablespoon butter (for greasing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch skillet or baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until pale and frothy.
  3. Gradually add the milk, flour, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and salt, whisking until smooth.
  4. Layer the sliced pears in the prepared skillet.
  5. Pour the batter over the pears and bake for 35-40 minutes until set and golden on top.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For a variation, try using apples or mixed berries instead of pears. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
