Description
A delightful Southern dessert featuring a golden crust and sweet, syrupy peaches that evoke memories of Grandma’s kitchen.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup whole milk
- 29 oz canned sliced peaches in heavy syrup (1 large can, undrained)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the stick of butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven to melt completely, watching it closely until it’s fully liquefied.
- In a medium bowl, combine self-rising flour, sugar, and milk. Whisk until the batter is smooth and silky.
- Carefully remove the hot dish from the oven. Pour the prepared batter directly over the melted butter, do not stir; watch the magic unfold.
- Spoon the undrained canned peaches evenly over the batter; again, do not stir. The batter will rise around the peaches as it bakes, creating a beautiful effect.
- If desired, sprinkle a little cinnamon over the top for added flavor.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Allow the cobbler to cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before serving, so the sauce can set perfectly.
Notes
Serve warm with ice cream or fresh whipped cream for a delightful experience. Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge.
