Description

A delightful dessert featuring flaky layers of puff pastry filled with creamy custard, perfect for family gatherings and special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thick. Place it on a lined baking sheet and bake until golden brown, approximately 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until just boiling, stirring occasionally.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the hot milk to this mixture, whisking continuously.
  5. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the custard thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the butter.
  6. Allow the custard to cool completely.
  7. Once the puff pastry is cool, slice it in half horizontally. Spread the cooled custard on the bottom half and place the top half on top.
  8. Dust the top with powdered sugar just before serving. Slice and enjoy chilled.

Notes

Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easy mixing. For best results, store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
