Description

Oven-Baked Fish Nuggets are a healthier alternative to fried fish, featuring tender chunks of white fish coated in a crispy, seasoned breadcrumb crust. These nuggets are baked to golden perfection and are perfect for a family-friendly meal or snack.

Ingredients

– 1.5 lbs Firm White Fish (like cod, haddock, halibut, or tilapia)
– 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
– 2 large Eggs
– 2 cups Panko Breadcrumbs
– 1 teaspoon Paprika
– 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
– 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
– 1 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
– 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
– 4 tablespoons Olive Oil or Melted Butter
– Lemon Wedges (for serving, optional)
– Fresh Parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease with cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour; the beaten eggs; and a mixture of panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dredge each piece of fish in the flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Arrange the coated fish nuggets in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Lightly spray the tops with cooking spray or drizzle with olive oil.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the nuggets are golden brown and the fish is cooked through.
  7. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and tartar sauce if desired.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use almond flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Ensure the fish pieces are similar in size for even cooking.
  • These nuggets can be frozen after baking. Reheat in the oven for best results.
  • Customize the seasoning by adding herbs like dill or parsley to the breadcrumb mixture.
