Description

Irresistibly cute morsels of traditional shepherd’s pie packed into bite-sized treats with a flaky pastry crust, savory filling, and creamy mashed potatoes.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 pound mashed potatoes (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 package of pastry dough (or phyllo dough)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cook the ground beef or lamb in a skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Combine the mixed vegetables, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Prepare the pastry dough by rolling it out and cutting into squares for muffin tin.
  6. Form the pastry cups by pressing the squares into the muffin tin.
  7. Fill the pastry cups with the meat mixture and top with mashed potatoes.
  8. Brush the edges with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and flaky.
  10. Serve slightly cooled and enjoy!

Notes

These bites can be made ahead and frozen. Reheat in the oven for best results.
