Irresistibly cute morsels of traditional shepherd’s pie packed into bite-sized treats with a flaky pastry crust, savory filling, and creamy mashed potatoes.

- 1 pound ground beef or lamb
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 pound mashed potatoes (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 package of pastry dough (or phyllo dough)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Cook the ground beef or lamb in a skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
- Combine the mixed vegetables, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Prepare the pastry dough by rolling it out and cutting into squares for muffin tin.
- Form the pastry cups by pressing the squares into the muffin tin.
- Fill the pastry cups with the meat mixture and top with mashed potatoes.
- Brush the edges with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and flaky.
- Serve slightly cooled and enjoy!
Notes
These bites can be made ahead and frozen. Reheat in the oven for best results.
