Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line 9×9 inch baking pan
  2. Cream butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
  3. Mix in flour and cornstarch until dough forms
  4. Press dough evenly into pan and bake 15-20 minutes until golden
  5. Combine condensed milk, brown sugar, corn syrup, and cream in saucepan
  6. Cook over medium heat until boiling, then simmer 5 minutes until thickened
  7. Pour caramel over cooled shortbread and spread evenly
  8. Melt chocolate chips and cocoa powder, spread over caramel layer
  9. Refrigerate until set, at least 1 hour
  10. Cut into bars and serve
