- 1 pack of thick-cut bacon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon water
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 baguette
- Olive oil, salt, and pepper
- 4 or 8-ounce log of goat cheese
- Maple syrup (or honey, or hot honey)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix brown sugar with water, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Lay the bacon strips flat on the sheet, brush them with the sugar mixture, and sprinkle with extra black pepper.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until crispy and caramelized.
- While the bacon cooks, slice the baguette into ½-inch pieces, brush with olive oil, and toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes.
- Once cooled, lay out parchment paper and cut the bacon into manageable lengths.
- Spread goat cheese over the bacon, roll tightly into a log, drizzle with maple syrup, and chill for 30 minutes.
Notes
Make a day in advance for easier party prep. Can substitute bacon with mushrooms for a vegetarian option.
