A comforting homemade marinara sauce bursting with vibrant flavors of San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, and fresh herbs, perfect for pasta, pizza, and more.
Ingredients

- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 3 teaspoons minced garlic
- 2 cans San Marzano tomatoes (28 ounces each)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
Instructions
- In a large pan over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil until shimmering.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until slightly golden.
- Reduce heat to medium, add the San Marzano tomatoes and salt, and stir.
- Bring the sauce to a gentle boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and break up the tomatoes. Simmer for 20-25 minutes until thickened.
- In the last 5 minutes of cooking, fold in the chopped basil and parsley.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
Notes
Storage: Sauce lasts up to 5 days in the fridge or 3 months in the freezer. Add a pinch of sugar if sauce is too acidic.
