Description

A delightful Southern dish featuring shrimp cooked in a spicy, buttery sauce with garlic and tomatoes, perfect for family gatherings or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.25 lb shrimp (fresh or thawed, peeled and deveined)
  • 2.5 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion (finely diced)
  • 3 tbsp butter (room temperature, unsalted recommended)
  • 5 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 3/4 cup white wine (dry, such as Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth (homemade or low-sodium)
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 14.5 oz diced tomatoes (canned)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 2.5 tsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 1.25 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Finely dice the onion and mince the garlic.
  3. In a small bowl, combine oregano, basil, mustard powder, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and sugar.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the shrimp for 1 minute and 20 seconds on each side until pink and crispy. Transfer to a plate.
  5. In the same skillet, add butter and diced onions, cooking until soft and translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
  6. Add minced garlic to the pan and cook until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  7. Deglaze the pan with white wine, scraping up browned bits, and simmer for 4-5 minutes until reduced by half.
  8. Stir in chicken broth, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, hot sauce, and the dry seasoning blend.
  9. Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  10. Return shrimp to the skillet and cook in sauce for an additional 45 seconds.
  11. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

Use the freshest shrimp possible for the best flavor. Substitute olive oil for avocado oil if needed.
