Description

A rich, creamy, and utterly delicious dressing that elevates any dish with its nutty flavor.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons white sesame seeds
  • 3 tablespoons Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons neutral flavored oil
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Japanese soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons mirin (optional)
  • 23 teaspoons honey or brown sugar (to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Toast the sesame seeds in a dry sauté pan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until golden, about 3-4 minutes, then reduce heat to medium and continue toasting until dark brown, about another 2-3 minutes. Transfer to a plate to cool.
  2. Grind the cooled sesame seeds into a fine meal using a mortar and pestle or a coffee grinder for about 30 seconds.
  3. Whisk together the ground sesame seeds and remaining ingredients until smooth and well combined.
  4. Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning with freshly ground black pepper or more honey/sugar as needed.
  5. Store the dressing in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week, mixing well before each use.

Notes

For the best flavor, use toasted sesame seeds and Kewpie mayonnaise. Adjust sweetness to your taste.
