Description

Fluffy and slightly sweet homemade Italian sandwich bread with a golden crust, perfect for sandwiches and family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until bubbly and foamy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms; it should be slightly sticky but manageable.
  3. Flour a surface and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough to release air, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
