Description

A delightful twist on classic cookies, combining rich chocolate with zesty orange for a comforting treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, then stir in the orange zest until well incorporated.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart about 2 inches.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are soft.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack for at least 5 minutes before transferring them.
  9. For the icing, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cookies before serving.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can also refrigerate them to keep them fresh longer.
