Description

A vibrant and zesty homemade tomatillo green sauce that brings fresh flavors to any dish, perfect for tacos, burritos, or just with tortilla chips.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 9 medium tomatillos
  • 1 small yellow or white onion
  • 1 to 2 serrano or jalapeño peppers
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1¼ teaspoons sea salt
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Remove the husks from the tomatillos, rinse, and pat dry. Slice the onion and peppers, then place everything on the baking sheet.
  3. Drizzle with avocado oil and sprinkle with sea salt. Toss to coat thoroughly. Wrap the garlic cloves in foil with a drizzle of oil and place them on the sheet.
  4. Roast for 15 to 20 minutes until the tomatillos are juicy and slightly browned.
  5. Carefully unwrap the garlic and remove the skins. Remove stems from the peppers. In a food processor, combine the roasted tomatillos, onion, peppers, garlic, avocado oil, lime juice, cilantro, and salt. Process until smooth.
  6. Taste the green sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to five days or freeze for up to three months. For a spicier sauce, add more jalapeño or serrano peppers.
