Description

A versatile and delicious tart crust that provides a buttery, flaky foundation for any sweet or savory filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 12 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, powdered sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut in butter: Add cold butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Incorporate egg yolk: Stir in the egg yolk until just combined.
  4. Add cold water: Gradually mix in water until the dough holds together.
  5. Chill the dough: Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven: Preheat to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Roll out the dough: Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
  8. Prepare for baking: Transfer to a tart pan, prick the bottom, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool and fill: Let the crust cool completely before filling.

Notes

Ensure your butter is cold for a flakier texture. You can make the dough ahead of time and freeze for up to 2 months.
