A hearty and comforting soup made with a smoky ham bone and tender beans, perfect for chilly evenings.

- 1 ham bone
- 2 cups diced ham
- 1 cup dried beans (such as navy or pinto)
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse 1 cup of dried beans under cold water. Soak them in water overnight, then drain and set aside.
- In a slow cooker, add your ham bone, 2 cups of diced ham, soaked beans, 4 cups of chicken broth, 1 chopped onion, 2 diced carrots, 2 diced celery stalks, 3 minced garlic cloves, and 1 bay leaf.
- Sprinkle in salt and pepper to taste, adjusting later as needed.
- Cover the slow cooker and set it to low for 8-10 hours.
- When done, remove the ham bone, shred any meat left on it, and return the shredded ham to the soup. Discard the bone and bay leaf.
- Ladle your Ham Bone Soup into bowls, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
For a quicker alternative, you can use canned beans—just be sure to drain and rinse them. Consider using homemade ham stock for an even richer flavor!
