Description

A hearty and comforting soup made with a smoky ham bone and tender beans, perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ham bone
  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 1 cup dried beans (such as navy or pinto)
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse 1 cup of dried beans under cold water. Soak them in water overnight, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a slow cooker, add your ham bone, 2 cups of diced ham, soaked beans, 4 cups of chicken broth, 1 chopped onion, 2 diced carrots, 2 diced celery stalks, 3 minced garlic cloves, and 1 bay leaf.
  3. Sprinkle in salt and pepper to taste, adjusting later as needed.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and set it to low for 8-10 hours.
  5. When done, remove the ham bone, shred any meat left on it, and return the shredded ham to the soup. Discard the bone and bay leaf.
  6. Ladle your Ham Bone Soup into bowls, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

For a quicker alternative, you can use canned beans—just be sure to drain and rinse them. Consider using homemade ham stock for an even richer flavor!
