Delightful thumbprint cookies with a tropical twist, featuring a creamy guava filling and a tender, chewy texture.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (full-fat, room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup guava paste (or guava jam)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and softened butter until smooth.
  4. Add sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until the dough comes together.
  6. Cover the bowl and chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  7. Scoop out 1-inch balls of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Press an indent into each cookie with your thumb and fill with warmed guava paste.
  9. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool completely on a wire rack and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter and cream cheese are at room temperature. Chill the dough thoroughly to prevent spreading.
