- 1 lb loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 8 eggs
- 3 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (for topping)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- Maple syrup (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gently fold the bread cubes into the egg mixture and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb.
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and pour in the bread mixture, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, mix the diced butter, 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and cinnamon until crumbly; sprinkle over the bread mixture.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and firm in the middle.
- Allow to cool slightly, serve warm with maple syrup.
Notes
You can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it unbaked. Let it sit for 30 minutes at room temperature before baking.
