Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of day-old bread, cubed (French or challah)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Fresh berries (for topping)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)
  • Maple syrup (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until frothy.
  3. Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture and stir gently to coat. Let it sit for 15 minutes to soak.
  4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly.
  5. Top with fresh berries, pressing them slightly into the mixture.
  6. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
  7. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with maple syrup.

Notes

Use stale bread for the best texture. You can prep the night before and bake in the morning.
