Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, diced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup eggnog, plus more for brushing
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the glaze:
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons eggnog
  • Pinch of nutmeg for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sugar.
  3. Add diced cold butter and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, eggnog, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour wet ingredients into dry mixture and stir until just combined to form a slightly sticky dough.
  6. Turn out the dough onto a floured surface, press into an 8-inch circle, and cut into 8 wedges.
  7. Brush tops with additional eggnog and bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack and glaze with a mixture of powdered sugar and eggnog.
  9. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For a lighter texture, measure flour by spooning it into the cup. Ensure butter is cold for flaky scones.
