Description
A hearty and comforting homemade version of the classic Hamburger Helper, featuring cheesy pasta and ground beef.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 medium onion (diced)
- 2–3 cloves garlic (minced)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil; cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente (about 7-9 minutes). Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef for 6-8 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet; cook for 2-3 minutes until onions are translucent.
- Pour in beef broth and bring to a simmer. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- Add cooked macaroni to the skillet and mix well to coat with the cheese sauce.
- Stir in sour cream, season with salt and pepper, and let sit for a couple of minutes to thicken.
Notes
Make sure butter is at room temperature for better mixing. Swap ground beef for plant-based alternatives for a vegetarian option.
