Description

A hearty and comforting homemade version of the classic Hamburger Helper, featuring cheesy pasta and ground beef.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 23 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil; cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente (about 7-9 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef for 6-8 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet; cook for 2-3 minutes until onions are translucent.
  4. Pour in beef broth and bring to a simmer. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Add cooked macaroni to the skillet and mix well to coat with the cheese sauce.
  6. Stir in sour cream, season with salt and pepper, and let sit for a couple of minutes to thicken.

Notes

Make sure butter is at room temperature for better mixing. Swap ground beef for plant-based alternatives for a vegetarian option.
