  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Decorative sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and baking soda; whisk and set aside.
  4. Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture alternating with buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
  7. Divide batter and mix in food coloring if desired.
  8. Scoop heaping tablespoons of batter onto prepared sheets, leaving space for spreading.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden and springy.
  10. Cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
