Description

A unique twist on classic barbecued chicken, combining sweet Dr Pepper with smoky chipotle peppers for a flavorful experience.


Ingredients

  • 12 chicken legs
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup Dr Pepper
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 12 chipotle peppers, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons adobo sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to high, direct heat.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, Dijon mustard, Dr Pepper, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, chopped chipotle peppers, and adobo sauce.
  3. Lightly brush chicken legs with vegetable oil and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Place chicken skin-side down on the hot grill and grill for about 15 minutes.
  5. Reduce the grill heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for 15 minutes.
  6. Flip the chicken, baste with sauce, cover, and grill for another 10 minutes.
  7. Flip again, baste, and cook for an additional 5 minutes until reaching an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  8. Serve hot, drizzled with more sauce if desired.

Notes

For optimal flavor, marinate the chicken in the sauce for a few hours or overnight before grilling.
