A unique twist on classic barbecued chicken, combining sweet Dr Pepper with smoky chipotle peppers for a flavorful experience.

- 12 chicken legs
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup Dr Pepper
- 1/4 cup cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1–2 chipotle peppers, chopped
- 2 teaspoons adobo sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the grill to high, direct heat.
- In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, Dijon mustard, Dr Pepper, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, chopped chipotle peppers, and adobo sauce.
- Lightly brush chicken legs with vegetable oil and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Place chicken skin-side down on the hot grill and grill for about 15 minutes.
- Reduce the grill heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for 15 minutes.
- Flip the chicken, baste with sauce, cover, and grill for another 10 minutes.
- Flip again, baste, and cook for an additional 5 minutes until reaching an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
- Serve hot, drizzled with more sauce if desired.
Notes
For optimal flavor, marinate the chicken in the sauce for a few hours or overnight before grilling.
