Description
A delightful twist on the classic apple pie featuring flaky puff pastry and caramelized apples with cinnamon and brown sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons coarse sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté the peeled, cored, and sliced apples for about 3-4 minutes until they soften.
- Add the cinnamon and brown sugar. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the apples are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a clean surface and cut it in half lengthwise.
- Place one rectangle of pastry on the baking sheet and fill the center with the cooled apples, leaving an inch around the edges.
- Brush the edges with whisked egg, place the second pastry rectangle on top, and seal the edges by pinching.
- Cut vents in the top, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed for the best texture. You can add a splash of vanilla or nutmeg into the filling for an extra flavor boost.
