Description

A delightful twist on the classic apple pie featuring flaky puff pastry and caramelized apples with cinnamon and brown sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté the peeled, cored, and sliced apples for about 3-4 minutes until they soften.
  3. Add the cinnamon and brown sugar. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the apples are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a clean surface and cut it in half lengthwise.
  5. Place one rectangle of pastry on the baking sheet and fill the center with the cooled apples, leaving an inch around the edges.
  6. Brush the edges with whisked egg, place the second pastry rectangle on top, and seal the edges by pinching.
  7. Cut vents in the top, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed for the best texture. You can add a splash of vanilla or nutmeg into the filling for an extra flavor boost.
