Description

A Chicago-style deep dish pizza with a thick, flaky crust filled with layers of seasoned ground beef, pizza sauce, pepperoni, and melted Italian cheese blend. This hearty, comforting pizza pie is perfect for family dinners and gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 can (8 oz) pizza sauce
  • 1 can (11 oz) refrigerated French bread dough
  • 2 cups shredded Italian cheese blend
  • 1 package (3 oz) pepperoni slices
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Cooking spray
  • Extra pizza sauce for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray 9-inch glass pie plate with cooking spray.
  2. Cook ground beef and onion in skillet over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes until beef is browned. Drain fat.
  3. Stir pizza sauce into beef mixture and set aside.
  4. Unroll French bread dough into pie plate, pressing into bottom and up sides with overhang.
  5. Spoon beef mixture into crust. Sprinkle with half the cheese, layer pepperoni, then remaining cheese.
  6. Beat egg with water and brush over dough edges.
  7. Bake 38-48 minutes until crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
  8. Cool 15 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra pizza sauce if desired.
