Description

Delicious crispy mini bloomin’ onions served with a creamy ranch dip, perfect for any gathering or as a late-night snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium onions
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Prep the onions: Peel each onion and carefully trim the root end and the top, leaving the layers intact. Slice each onion into 8 equal petals.
  2. Ice bath: Submerge the onions in a bowl of ice water for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare the coating: In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Egg mixture: In a separate bowl, beat the large eggs and milk until well combined.
  5. Coat the onions: Working with one onion at a time, dredge it in the seasoned flour, dip it into the egg mixture, and coat it thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat the oil: In a deep fryer or heavy bottom pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the onions: Carefully lower the coated onions into the hot oil in batches and fry for 4–5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Drain: Remove the fried onions and let them rest on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Make the dip: Whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill, and dried parsley in a small bowl until smooth.
  10. Serve: Serve the crispy mini bloomin’ onions hot alongside the creamy ranch dip.

Notes

You can customize the spices to suit your taste. For a vegan option, replace eggs with flax seeds and use plant-based mayo and sour cream.
