Description

A comforting individual-sized mac and cheese featuring creamy cheese sauce and a crispy golden topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni in boiling water until al dente, about 7-8 minutes, then drain.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and stir in the flour to create a roux.
  4. Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth, cooking for about 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
  5. Reduce heat to low, add the cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, stirring until melted.
  6. Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated.
  7. Pour the mixture into a small baking dish, smoothing the top.
  8. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top and drizzle with a little melted butter if desired.
  9. Bake for about 20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a creamier sauce, use freshly grated cheese instead of pre-shredded. Customize with your favorite add-ins, such as bacon or veggies!
