- 1 cup elbow macaroni
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the elbow macaroni in boiling water until al dente, about 7-8 minutes, then drain.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and stir in the flour to create a roux.
- Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth, cooking for about 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
- Reduce heat to low, add the cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, stirring until melted.
- Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated.
- Pour the mixture into a small baking dish, smoothing the top.
- Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top and drizzle with a little melted butter if desired.
- Bake for about 20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a creamier sauce, use freshly grated cheese instead of pre-shredded. Customize with your favorite add-ins, such as bacon or veggies!
