- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
- Optional toppings: chopped nuts (pecans, almonds, or walnuts), flaked sea salt, or festive sprinkles
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once bubbly, stir in sugar, salt, and vanilla extract.
- Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it reaches around 300°F on a candy thermometer, approximately 10-15 minutes.
- Carefully pour the hot toffee onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
- While the toffee is still warm, sprinkle chocolate chips over the top and let them melt for about 5 minutes.
- Gently spread the melted chocolate to cover the toffee.
- Sprinkle your choice of toppings while the chocolate is still soft.
- Let the toffee set at room temperature until completely cool and hardened, about 1-2 hours, then break into pieces and store in an airtight container.
