Description

A delightful twist on traditional Italian focaccia topped with a sweet cream cheese frosting and a cinnamon sugar mix.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water, warmed (about 105 to 110 degrees F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil, divided
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Bloom the yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let the mixture rest for about 5 minutes, or until the yeast begins to bloom and looks foamy.
  2. Add half of the oil into the yeast mixture, setting the remaining oil aside.
  3. Combine the flour and kosher salt to the yeast mixture and stir until combined.
  4. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour in a warm place until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F.
  6. Mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  7. Pour the remaining oil into a 9×11 inch baking pan and coat the bottom evenly.
  8. Transfer the risen dough to the prepared baking pan, spreading it to the edges.
  9. Create dimples in the dough with your fingers to allow for the butter mixture to seep in.
  10. Pour the cinnamon-sugar butter mixture over the dimples evenly.
  11. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  12. Prepare the frosting by beating together the cream cheese, softened butter, confectioners’ sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  13. Drizzle the frosting over the warm focaccia before serving.

Notes

For an extra special touch, let the focaccia cool slightly before cutting, but digging in right away is also fine!
