Description

These Cinnamon Sugar Cookies are a nostalgic treat that combines the warm flavors of cinnamon and apple butter for a soft, chewy texture.


Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • For the cinnamon sugar topping: 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line three cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  3. Cream the softened butter, sugar, and apple butter together until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
  7. Blend the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  8. Scoop rounded balls of dough onto the lined cookie sheets.
  9. Combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a bowl and roll each dough ball in this mixture.
  10. Bake for 6-8 minutes until edges are set and slightly golden.
  11. Cool on sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

For chewier cookies, remove slightly earlier from the oven.
