- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- For the cinnamon sugar topping: 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line three cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream the softened butter, sugar, and apple butter together until light and fluffy.
- Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.
- Whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
- Blend the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Scoop rounded balls of dough onto the lined cookie sheets.
- Combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a bowl and roll each dough ball in this mixture.
- Bake for 6-8 minutes until edges are set and slightly golden.
- Cool on sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Notes
For chewier cookies, remove slightly earlier from the oven.
