Description

Delightful cookies with a unique combination of rich chocolate and refreshing orange zest, creating a fudgy texture and a beautiful crinkly surface.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. In an electric mixer, combine cocoa powder, white sugar, and vegetable oil. Beat until it forms a shiny dough (2-3 mins).
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Incorporate vanilla and orange extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and espresso powder. Gradually mix into the chocolate mixture until just combined.
  4. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for 4 hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll chilled dough into balls and coat with confectioners’ sugar.
  7. Arrange on baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set and centers remain soft.
  8. Cool on sheets for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, don’t skip chilling the dough to prevent spreading. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
