Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter until completely liquid (3-5 minutes).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until combined.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla and orange extracts.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  7. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  8. Fold in the chocolate chips and orange zest.
  9. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes until tops are shiny and slightly crinkled.
  11. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For a more fudgy texture, reduce flour to 3/4 cup and increase cocoa powder to 1 1/4 cups. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
