- 1 1/2 cups eggnog
- 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp water
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- Extra nutmeg or chocolate shavings for topping
Instructions
- Heat the eggnog in a small saucepan until steaming but not boiling, about 3-5 minutes.
- Pour the hot eggnog over the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl and let sit for 1 minute, then whisk until smooth.
- Create a slurry by mixing cornstarch with water and stir into the chocolate mixture while cooking over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract; let cool to room temperature.
- In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form, about 3-4 minutes.
- Fold the cooled chocolate mixture into the whipped cream until just combined.
- Spoon into individual cups and chill for at least 2 hours until set.
- Top with whipped cream, nutmeg, or chocolate shavings before serving.
Notes
Store any leftover mousse cups in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The mousse can be made up to 3 days in advance.
